Last week the photographer, Debora Smail was in town, working on a travel assignment for a magazine. We hung out a bit; first we cracked open a few beers at Harry's Tinaja, then I took her her over to my studio and showed her DesertManhattan. Besides it being a lovely afternoon, full of interesting conversation, she took a lot of pictures. Here are some of them. Hope you like etc. Thanks, Debora!
These are amazing shots - you look like you're having too much fun!
Posted by: Paul Downey at October 6, 2008 2:48 PMGreat shots, Hugh.
Having these professional shots of you working is such a genius idea to promote the new works that I wish either you thought of it upfront directly and intentionally as part of your evil plan, or that I did and suggested it to you.
Posted by: Shelley Noble at October 6, 2008 2:50 PMAwesome shots Mr Mac!! Hope all good in life and love :) xx
Posted by: Catherine at October 6, 2008 2:55 PMthanks for the shout-out, hugh!
i really enjoyed shooting you working! too bad i couldn't capture the thought-smoke coming from your ears!
i can't wait to see DesertManhattan completed - it was already beautiful in the beginning stages.
These are great shots. I especially like the one at the picnic table with your blackberry, smokes and lighter. Is that a book of business cards underneath? Portfolio maybe.
Posted by: Jennifer at October 6, 2008 8:40 PMJennifer- THAT ACTUALLY IS a a business card wallet filled with 70+ original drawings. Very cool that you spotted it :)
Posted by: hugh macleod at October 6, 2008 11:26 PMaaah!
Is that really cigarette smoke or the metaphysical, mystical otherness that informs web 2 genius?
Posted by: Jake Edwards at October 6, 2008 11:47 PMThanks for sharing Debora and Hugh. Wish I'd
been with you both at the Kiss Tank, sharing the beer and conversation.
best,
bonnieL

Your writing has become more interesting since you moved to the desert, by the way.

Candice, yeah, I would agree. It's because I now actually have the time and space to think propely.
As a painter friend of mine said to me about West Texas, "There's not much to do out here, except to make art and drink beer."
;-)
Posted by: hugh macleod at October 9, 2008 5:53 AMAwwwwwwwww, Damn! Made me wanna pick up smoking again. But that aside, so happy to see you stretching out and flexing. Follow it! Peace (cough, cough...oh yea, that's why I quit).
Very nice. They capture you well.
