Dear Anil,
Just a quick note to say, I've upgraded my blog software to Movabe Type 3.3, and it works WONDERFULLY. It has pretty much killed off my spam problem with one fell swoop.
The smartest thing is how it deletes all "junk" comments with a single click of a button. What used to be a fifteen-minute daily chore now takes a few seconds.
I heartily recommend an upgrade to 3.3 to any other MT users I know.
Kudos to you guys over at Six Apart,
Best
Hugh
Posted by hugh macleod at September 11, 2006 9:12 PM | TrackBackI upgraded too. You'll soon see that you will not have any trackbacks to your posts because a KNOWN bug in the new version doesn't allow them.
And this is not a new issue. this little bug is not mentioned by Six Apart.
And if you email them, good luck getting a response. I've been waiting nearly three weeks.
Posted by: B.L. Ochman at September 11, 2006 9:51 PMEh. I'm not too fussed about trackbacks. I prefer using Technorati.
Trackback spam used to be a much bigger problem for me than comment spam.
Posted by: Hugh MacLeod at September 11, 2006 9:53 PMHugh, thanks for the kind words. B.L., I've emailed you separately, but if you haven't filed a help ticket with our team, that will be the quickest way to get assistance from our support staff.
Posted by: Anil at September 12, 2006 2:34 AMand if only technorati was in real time! my stats on technorati get updated sporadically at best. sigh
Posted by: B.L. Ochman at September 12, 2006 4:16 AMAre you saying is trackback an over-rated promotional tool? I've been having a number of conversation recently about whether I should add it to my blog and I hadn't even contemplated the spam potential. What's your advice?
Posted by: John Dodds at September 12, 2006 1:53 PMI'm not crazy about spam fctories... I mean, trackbacks....
Posted by: Hugh MacLeod at September 12, 2006 2:01 PMI found a single spam comment to be deeply irritating, so I shall remain as I am. Thanks for the tip.
Posted by: John Dodds at September 12, 2006 9:17 PMCongratulations Hugh!
Movable Type improved a lot over time and we are close to see even a better product taking shape shortly
Within the Movable Type Professionals network (pronet) it is a debate on trackbacks
Are they going to die? Can this be improved?
