Hi~im a chinese girl.
i just wanna tell u:
i love ur cartoons~very much~!!

Apple represents something like a "usability elite."
That is, people for whom the overall computing experience is more important than broad choice in hardware... and who know that Apple is best at that overall experience.
I bet if Apple made a tablet computer, you'd get one and become the biggest Mac fan in Blogtown. But I'd also bet that having a tablet form factor is your non-negotiable definition of usability (at least now that you have one).
Me, I want a Mac subnotebook, and Steve Jobs doesn't want to sell me one. (I think I'll get one eventually, but Apple won't approve.) Between here and there I'll probably buy a few more Macs.
The point is, yeah, 4% is not a large or representative market. But if you look at who that 4% is, I think you'll find opinion leaders overrepresented, and I *know* you'll find creative professionals overrepresented.
(Anyway, I still use WinXP and Linux every day in addition to OSX.)

Posted by: Bill Seitz at March 11, 2006 8:39 PMConsistency is not one your traits! As you argue implicitly argue elsewhere - share of market and share of voice/influence are very different things.

Posted by: Brooks Moses at March 11, 2006 10:12 PMI think you guys might be missing the point. He's saying don't confuse 4% with reality. That is, don't confuse a small market share with the reality that Apple rules ;-) Heh heh *smirk*
And if my interpretation is wrong.. it's more a share than Porsche, Ferrari, or BMW have of the car market ;-)

Posted by: Hugh MacLeod at March 12, 2006 6:26 AMThere's no such thing as 'markets' anyway, it's all about micromarkets nowadays sayeth the Godin. Micromarkets and microbrands.. let's bring back the term microcomputer.
