stormhoek in the west texas desert


1. A few weeks back I mentioned that I was back working with Stormhoek, the South African wine.

2. I mentioned that I had painted a billboard:

"Stormhoek. Made in South Africa. Drunk in West Texas."

3. I mentioned that there was no marketing budget to speak of, and that also I lived in West Texas, so with these limitations we were going to have to improvise.

Great Billboard. Makes me want to drive by.

I haven't blogged in almost 2 years and thus haven't checked out yours for a while. (I seem to go in phases with blogging since in my life it is a fun form of procrastination self-justified as a bit of marketing...) Glad to see that you are still posting.

I want drive 15 hours to Texas to have my picture taken with this sign...

What about people emailing you for a local version of the sign that they could post locally? Drunk in Chicago, Drunk in Peoria, Drunk in...? Or should we get off our asses and make our own...

Will this sign show up in Google streetview? Heh.

I live in the part of Canada that consumes the most wine in the country (about 20 liters per person per year). I wonder how it would sell here. The government controls commercial distribution here, so the liquor stores (gov't owned)have a very limited selection. If you want something different, you have to go through a private dealer.

If you can help me get a bottle of Stormhoek, I'll trade you a before and after video.

Good grief Hugh, I can't bear the suspense, it's as bad as '24' only thankfully without the clock ticking and the quadruple cliffhangers. Maybe you could work that in, with a couple of action-packed dive dive rolls a la Jack Bauer.

4 miles on the Alpine side of Marfa; wouldn't that give you a glimpse of the Marfa Lights? Perhaps inexplicable natural or supernatural phenomena will help this promotional campaign go viral.

May I suggest for the next billboard, "Stormhoek" The South African Wine that compliments Texas Bean Cuisine.

Standing out from the crowd is always a good thing unless you have an extra set of eyes (but then again my mother use to swear she did).

I find that my most creative ads always come from having no money to spend! lol

I like its amateurish feel, works for me!

Firstly, did the owners tell you what Stormhoek means?
Seoncdly, what do you think of South African wine in general as well as Stormhoek?

I am from South Africa and I have been personally impressed with the way South African wine has improved over the past ten years. What do you think?

FYI, Stormhoek Pinotage is now available in Western North Carolina. A very nice red that I can enjoy everyday.
