In my case, I can say that without sarcasm or bitterness that this is true and it's a wonderful thing. An ideal is not an illusion.

1. You marry into a RELATIONSHIP - you don't marry each other.
2. Every day, you make a choice to:
(a) work on your marriage, or
(b) work on your divorce.
There is no middle ground.
It's really that simple.
