I went back to the flat this morning to check out the flood damage. Well, besides the vast amounts of mud, some water-damaged furniture, some waterlogged paperwork and some walls needing repainted, I guess it could've been a whole lot worse.
I've ordered up some cleaners in for tomorrow, and the landlord returns from abroad at week's end, when I'm in America. So hopefully all will be back to normal by the time I get back from my travels. In the meantime, I can stay with my sister in Chiswick.
From what I can tell, I guess I was lucky. Thank the stars the floors are terracotta, and not carpet or wood etc.
Life goes on. More later...
Hugh
Maybe a dehumidifier would help as well

Glad to see that the water has receded Hugh. That must be a huge relief for you. Don't forget to get some fans in to dry out the walls though to stop any mould forming.
Posted by: technokitten at July 21, 2007 6:54 PMBlue rage rocks. Perhaps also reflects your mood due to what the floods have done to your home.
Hope you're getting on well.
Posted by: Hrishi at July 21, 2007 7:38 PMGood news Hugh. That does look to be not quite as bad as it might have been and the trip to the states might be a blessing in disguise in the sense that you can give the place time to dry out.

Good to hear!
Posted by: Sig at July 21, 2007 9:27 PMThat's awful, Hugh. Hang in there. Glad you have high-and-dry places to stay.
Posted by: Rex Hammock at July 21, 2007 10:23 PMHope everything turns out alright in the end for you Hugh. I've been in the same predicament with carpeted floors, and thank your lucky stars you don't have to deal with the mess incurred by carpet.
Posted by: James Moody at July 22, 2007 12:49 AMHugh - I cannot even imagine what this experience must feel like. Your attitude is impressive. Yeah, you don't have much choice in the matter. But seriously, great outlook on things.
Posted by: Kevin Dugan at July 22, 2007 3:40 AMSorry about your flat. And You are lucky with your terra cotta floors!
Enjoy San Fran. WE have Sunshine here in California. Could use a little rain though!
Been a quiet onlooker of your great art!
Keep it up and best of luck!
Hi Hugh, sorry to see you are going through this. I hope their's no permanent damage to you stuff. I've gone through a few similar situations and mold can be a nasty threat after something like this.
Hope you're okay man.
Posted by: Karl at July 22, 2007 3:52 PMHugh, you are holding up remarkably well for what you went through. What are you doing to remain so calm, and can you package and share it? When I was in London a few weeks ago (I got there the day they found the car bombs), there were stories even then of flooding, but it was not yet in London. Here in New York, due to some flooding, there was a steam pipe explosion that sent a geyser up right here in mid-town, complete with an asbestos covering over everything for several blocks (which are still closed). Hang in there, and thanks for showing the pics.
Posted by: Jeffrey Keefer at July 22, 2007 8:26 PMSheesh. This is crazy for England. Glad you're ok though.
