[One of the cartoons I did for Seth Godin's new book, "The Dip". Read Guy Kawasaki's excellent interview of Seth for more details etc.]
Classic, you should post it with blank speech bubbles. i think there could be some good alternative captions from the public out there.

Posted by: Penguin at May 14, 2007 9:10 PMYou know I'm loving this strip since we chatted earlier. It makes me giggle every time I read it.
Posted by: C.C. at May 14, 2007 9:13 PMAnother one that totally resonates. You're on a roll!
Posted by: Keith Handy at May 14, 2007 9:43 PMActually, that makes no sense. The harder the pawn works in chess, it gets to become Queen (not King).
Posted by: Daniel Moth at May 14, 2007 10:00 PMExquisitely true!
Posted by: Katie Cummings at May 14, 2007 10:13 PMDaniel: since the pawn is delusional, I don't see that it matters.
Posted by: Keith Handy at May 14, 2007 10:51 PMLOL. Amazing cartoon, totally! and co-incidental even. I was thinking about some things very related (that I also blogged about) just before I saw this in the RSS reader.

Posted by: PXLated at May 15, 2007 1:00 AMHaha - this one is awesome - and so true (sniff).

Posted by: jessy at May 15, 2007 6:04 AMAt the end of the game, they go back in the same box.
Posted by: Scott Caplan at May 15, 2007 6:22 AMBrilliant...I am cracking up!
Posted by: Amanda at May 15, 2007 11:13 AMWhen faced with never being the king, many will justify that they are not really pawns, but rather Knights (I always liked the horse shaped chess ones best!). The image of being a knight is a romantic and adventurous notion. Knights make things happen.
If you can be a Knight, then you have what it takes to be a King, you just need to create your own kingdom. It is for this that many toil away day after day, striving to create our own empires. Yet it is easy to get caught in the trap of just working hard. Like the pawn in the cartoon, many of us will mistakenly labor at the wrong task for a lifetime, missing the chance to fulfill our true desires
Posted by: thom singer at May 15, 2007 11:37 AMOh, that's a nice and poignant one. :)
Posted by: Lukc at May 15, 2007 1:13 PMnice one. =]

Posted by: A at May 15, 2007 4:40 PMOMG it's true!!!!
Posted by: nakedpastor at May 15, 2007 6:11 PMExcellent cartoon.
What's that old saying, Power is taken, not given.
(I am lousy at quotes)
When I was in management, we nurtured the minions dreams, without feeding them facts. Constantly controlling their mindset with positive reinforcement with a smile, that they could never make it on their own.
I have found that most people are too lazy to research and plan out "dreams" or lack the courage to pursue them. Yes, it is hardwork. But, if you can hang in there and build momentum, you may be king.
I quit my job and started my own little company. I have an idea for another that I am outlining now. I can't predict the future, but I am grateful no one is squashing my enthusiam.
I guess that is why I like gapingvoid cartoons so much, "you laugh at what is, and hope for what could be."
Thank you, Hugh!
Posted by: RKR at May 15, 2007 8:19 PMI wanna play checkers...
Posted by: Alp at May 16, 2007 3:44 AMThis is my favorite Gaping Void cartoon of all time.
