Robert Scoble's best post in a while:
We don’t know how to thrill influentials. Google does. Maybe by accident. Maybe by plan. I don’t care anymore. They found a way to bring us a little better search with advertising that sucked a lot less. That’s really why they are on fire.[Speaking of Scoble:] Don't forget, Robert and I will be hosting a Geek dinner in London on December 10th. And there's an Irish Geek dinner with Scoble on November 30th. Posted by hugh macleod at November 3, 2005 7:58 AM | TrackBackHow did they do it? They didn’t do it by doing committee meetings. By doing focus groups. By studying millions of users. They did it by understanding the leading edge of users and serving them well. They did NOT serve my dad well in the early days. It took me two years to switch my dad from AltaVista to Google. They DID serve ME well, though. On every user study I’ve seen I’m way off the end of the bell curve. But Google groks people like me. They serve people like me. And they romance people like me in a way that no other company does.
Hey Hugh!
I just tried to login and add my name to the attendees...I assume there is an approval process? My name isn't showing up.
I'm so excited that I'm finally going to meet you in person!

I don't like the term very much (at least not for myself), but if I look at things I do and have done, I have to admit, that compared to Average Joe around me, I am such. And it sucks.
I read this post, but thanks for bringing that special part again up, so I can go and reread the article again. :)
[and don't forget: you can meet Hugh at Lesblogs too. *hint*]
There’s a lot to be said in letting passions guide you. Focus groups, by nature, are a reflection of the past. Google is tapping into the future.
Thankfully, my Dad (70) got on to it early enough—then again, he loved Beavis and Butthead more than I did. He might be hipper than us all.
Thomas L. Vaultonburg of zombie Logic press here to say I'd love to comment but I have no idea what you said.
Posted by: Thomas Vaultonburg at November 4, 2005 8:54 PMHey, Hugh!
Will there ever be any Paris blogger dinners?
(beside from the periodical "Paris blogue" meetings, I mean...)
The Google thoughts are nice and dandy.
What I can't figure out is your business card drawing/scrawling. Is that a familiar limerick? I just find it plain disturbing.
