Doc Searls gives Thingamy a mention:
What matters most is who is coming up with it. As usual with cool things that happen naturally on the Web, it's not the big vendors or other usual suspects. It's individuals, trying to make sense of the world. If you want to know more about Thingamy, Sig's the guy to talk to etc.Dollars, of course, will come later.
[NOTE TO SELF:] How does this affect "The Porous Membrane"?
Posted by hugh macleod at July 22, 2005 12:00 AM | TrackBackI find it interesting Hugh that you have started to think about how things like 'Thingamy' affects the porous membrane. I was thinking the same a while back in a document describing my vision for a next generation file system I said this:
With Base4 you can expose your information and processes to clients, suppliers and partners securely and safely. This will create goodwill, synergies and enhance trust.
Technically this is achieved using a combination of Contextual Security and Contextual Search Folders. External ‘extra-team’ members are given access to a folder that provides access only to relevant information, How? Using contextual security, i.e. they have a different context than internal users, and the folder is backed by a search that is constructed using elements of the users context. Hence the results for different context are completely different.
For the business this means more Trust. Why is trust a big deal? Improving the level of trust is perhaps the single biggest thing that can be done to improve profitability. Think Hugh MacLeod's "The Porous Membrane" and you get the idea.
I'm sure the something similar can be said about Thingamy.
