I drew this cartoon for The Economist, the great British newsweekly AND a top customer of my client, Rackspace.
I know The Economist well. I’ve been reading it for decades. When I was a boy, my parents were friends with the style editor, John Grimond (Long story).
I have friends who have worked there. For such an illustrious institution, it’s always been interesting to me how little they pay people to work there.
Of course, they don’t have to pay a lot. People work there because it matters. Because they get to work with the best. Not because they want to get rich.
That can be a good thing…
Also, you’ll notie a little symbol on the bottom right- a love heart plus the letter, “R”. You would have seen me playing around with it a day or two ago.
It means “Love from Rackspace”, or something like that. A secret code, as it were.
And the Economist’s coverage of the ‘rest of the world’ is unparalled. When a family friend of ours Kenneth Matiba was imprisoned for trying to make Kenya a multiparty state. The Economist and the FT were the only British media to report it.
