“Vanished”. This is one of the prints from “Portfolio Series Number Two”, and is now for sale individually on the gapingvoid gallery.
Its backstory is over on my bio page:
“Spring ’98. I was at a bar, it was late, I was kinda tipsy.
SudÂdenly I reaÂliÂzed that my life hadn’t chanÂged much in the last decade since leaÂving college. Work, bars, carÂtoons, ranÂdom conÂverÂsaÂtions of a big-city nature, second-hand bookshops and art films, the occaÂsioÂnal bout of ranÂdom or reguÂlar sex to tide things over etc etc.
It wasn’t as inteÂresÂting as it used to be. But I hadn’t moved on, really. And I had no idea where to go next.
WelÂcome to New York.
The best carÂtoons are the ones that give you these amaÂzing moments of claÂrity as you draw them. That’s the best thing about carÂtooÂning, really. Everything else seems rather seconÂdary in comÂpaÂriÂson.”
This is one of all-time favorite cartoons. Though I wouldn’t call it “The story of my life” much these days, back in New York… Oh, yeah. Ouch.

Hugh,
Your site redesign looks fantastic!
Stephanie
@StephanieALloyd
Thanks. Yeah, @timgrahl did a fantastic job 🙂
I was just coming here to post the same thing…. love big buttons, the site looks great!
Hi Hugh. Just read Ignore Everybody last night, loving every page. Tried to send you an e-mail, but it kicked back.
Just wanted to let you know how well IE resonated with me. Good woik.
Thanks, Tim! That’s really kind of you to say… 🙂
I really like what you did with your site. Rock on…….
Seriously, Guys, all this goodwill you’re sending me re. the new blog design has made me, really, really happy. Thank you all so much…. 🙂
Wow, just looked at your new site using Safari at my iPhone. The mobile version really rocks! Amazing design and UI is something I have never seen before. Sidewide elements tucked away nicely at the top right that present themselves in a nice overlay when clicked, social stuff at the bottom of posts very cool as well such as posting to your favorite iPhone Twitter app… I’m impressed! Hats off.
Thanks, Ronald! I don’t have an iPhone myself, so this is very helpful….
Yep, it’s amazing how some people NEVER change after leaving college, and see nothing wrong with that.
The new redesign looks nice, but where are the links to your archives? I’ve often browsed your old posts since they contain so much valuable info.
Also, why is “Hugh McLeod” in quotes at the top of the page? Is this not the real Hugh McLeod? 🙂
