So the Scots are voting today whether or not they want to be an Independent nation.
As somebody who grew up in Edinburgh, Scotland, I’m stunned. Only a few years ago, it seemed so unlikely. How thing change!
My own two cents: For all the issues mentioned in the press- North Sea Oil, Taxation, The NHS, EU membership, government ideology, will they be allowed to keep the British Pound etc etc- it surprises me that there’s been so little talk about something I think equally important:
How will Scottish Independence affect Scottish startup culture?
No one is talking about it, certainly not the politicians.
I think it matters.
I think it should affect the way you vote, pro or con.
Regardless of how the vote goes today, let’s remember the message in the cartoon above.
Not every society needs to be the next Silicon Valley. But every society, independent or not, needs to teach their kids to value startup culture from an early age, or else we are going to fail them.
Because from now on, that is how the future is going to be made.
