never take your talent for granted

It was quite fashionable there for a while, to think that instead of hiring all these high-dollar, top tier marketing people, you could just hire a few social media interns instead.

You know, because social media was cheap and easy, and millennials knew all about social media, and all millennials were willing to work for free, and you know…

Needless to say, that idea didn’t last long.

There’s a reason why it’s called “talent”: Because it’s valuable and rare. If it wasn’t, they’d call it something else.

And secondly, just because you’re talented, doesn’t mean you don’t have to work as hard. Actually, you probably have to work twice as hard, maybe more.

Why? Because the more talented you are, the more rewarded you get, the more people notice.
