Metaverse Shmetaverse

 

This semiotic simply nails so much that is going on in the world these days.

First off, we have COVID and all the brouhaha it caused these last two years. This also accelerated the evolution of what Microsoft’s Satya Nadella calls “Flexible Work”, and the hybrid solution of working between the office and home.

We have Mark Zuckerberg talking about the Metaverse…meaning we start spending a lot more time in virtual reality, and interacting with a lot more avatars instead of real people (sounds perfectly dreadful, doesn’t it…?).

And then we have, well, just more disruption in general. That’s been going on for a while. We used to say, “Our world is very different from the one our grandparents knew”. Nowadays, it’s more like “Our world is very different from the one last Tuesday”. Everything changes faster than our ability to process it.

Oh, and don’t even get us started on politics… Washington? China? Inflation? Supply chain nonsense?

What does all this have in common?

It is a massive need/demand for very strong, robust, “Antifragile” cultures to keep it all together.

THAT is what a good leader brings to the table. THAT is their biggest legacy. The other stuff; experience, technical know-how, etc. can all be outsourced.
