You always tell yourself that when you get to Paris, you'll spend the first full day there checking out the Louvre. Instead you end up holed up in your hotel room, surfing Facebook. Plus ca change...
if you are in paris I think watching Hotel Chevalier is highly appropiate.. great little short from wes anderson.. it's free from itunes(US) http://www.hotelchevalier.com/
let me know if you can't access itunes US..

Posted by: Igor Carron at October 1, 2007 11:24 AMYou'll just have to tell everybody back home that the Louvre was on strike, that's why you couldn't visit ;-)
Posted by: jmdesp at October 1, 2007 12:45 PMThe Louvre.
Future home of a gaping void business card.
(I suggest reserving the spot next to the Mona Lisa, lots of walk by traffic, as with any real estate, its about location, location, location).
Does this mean our cartoons will be en francais this week?
Posted by: Kimber at October 1, 2007 1:06 PMNot today. However, the Louvres is closed on Tuesdays.
Igor.
Posted by: Igor Carron at October 1, 2007 2:35 PMI tell myself I will visit the wonderful little Picasso Museum, and then I go there. Facebook will be there when you get back.
Posted by: B.L Ochman at October 1, 2007 3:04 PMMon dieu, Hugh. Step away from that computer tout de suite!
Posted by: latinbombshell at October 1, 2007 3:16 PMI must say, checking facebook from a Paris hotel has a certain allure.
Posted by: Eric at October 1, 2007 5:16 PMPeter: he probably can't log in as a US user unless he uses a proxy for his entire connexion (hotel wifi not gonna like that).
Igor: he's probably at one of the rare hotels who advertise properly abroad. . .
JMDesp: Simpler, just have to say he didn't feel like it on Monday, and it was closed on Tuesdays (hey!) -- then the rest of the week was too busy to go.
Oh: and the Louvre is over-rated, and over-crowded (I can send you a live feed of the queue: those people won't stop standing there for anything. . .) If you are into classical stuff, go to this one instead:
http://www.musee-jacquemart-andre.com/en/jacquemart/
Otherwise, you'll have to tell me if you prefer modern or contemporary. . .
... plus c'est la même chose. Applicable to business, etc.
Posted by: Valeria Maltoni at October 1, 2007 6:08 PMI could have sworn this was the north side of Dupont Circle in DC.
Posted by: Basil White at October 2, 2007 4:46 AMThat's what a gloomy day in Paris is for...holing yourself up in a hotel room for a few hours and rolling around in some delicious Gallic melancholia.
Try Julie Doiron’s “Tu Es Malades” and “Ce Charmant Coeur” for a soundtrack. It’ll drive you to drink – in a good way.
Is it sad that my favourite part of the Louvre is probably the lift in the main entrance hall?
Although I must admit, I do enjoy the Goya drawings out of the 'proper' art... Moreso than my work colleague, who waited until we'd paid and gone into the first exhibit to say he doesn't like 'classical art'....
