I would suggest that the characters are a little more well-rounded in the book, but some how I suspect this has very little to do with character-development, and much to do with the wine world. Yes?

Go to Napa Valley, drive up Silverado Trail and, while you may not be able to find the exact characters, you will find their spiritual kin.
(Disclaimer: Mary Sue does not support murder. But if you tell the souless prestige-seeking yuppies that the wine they are raving about is a $5 merlot you got at Safeway and they keel over dead, well--- that's not REALLY murder, now, is it?)
Posted by: Mary Sue at November 13, 2006 6:23 PMHa ha! One of the reasons that movie was so enjoyable was precisely b/c the characters were so horrific.
People you never want to meet in life meeting each other = great drama.
People you never want to meet in life meeting you in life = great desire to reach for hand grenade.
Posted by: communicatrix at November 15, 2006 4:28 PMJann Arden has the best journal! Her music is great and she will make you cry with laughter at her concerts.
In her November 18th, 2006 journal entry she writes:
"Much has been made of happiness; its advantages, its effects on sleep, a long life, and generally our overall moods - or lack thereof. I think happiness is overrated for the most part.
It’s simply not a state one can remain in for long periods of time. It’s not natural to be happy ALL the time. The last person I want to talk to at a party, dinner or otherwise, is the person who seems overly happy. I would more than likely find myself gravitating towards the guy butting his cigarette out into the geranium, or the woman with a black eye.
I find them tiring, happy people. I mean, it’s not that I have anything against “happy” people, I just feel better when I am not around them."
You would love her writing Hugh: http://www.jannarden.com/journal.php (unfortunately she isn't using blogging technology)
