Pedants' corner - some european drinkers will not like the american spelling.

And some Americans wouldn't like it if we used European spelling, John.

Luckily, depending on the market, this kind of stuff is easy enough to change. Unlike being a pedant ;-)

This cartoon is like the average Dilbert cartoon: as bizarre as it might appear, there's some truth in it.

The mother of a friend of mine (actually, the daughter is friend of a friend, but I heard this from the daughter) works as the hostess for a high-end restaurant in downtown Portland. This woman makes a good salary, has benefits & she never has to work holidays -- a rarity for the restaurant industry. (For the non-US folk, the job consists of taking reservations & showing people to their tables.)

Every time a new manager tries to reduce costs by letting this woman go, he ends up hiring her back on terms more favorable to her. Why? She's successfully schmoozed with the local rich & powerful, who eat there on a frequent basis. And when they find out that she's been let go (again), they complain.

Just another example of how social networking works in unpredictable ways.
