Posted by hugh macleod at July 28, 2006 2:51 AM | TrackBackI've come to realise that the world runs on a thin layer of denial, Hugh. But maybe that's all that keeps us from blowing our brains out.

Viva La Revolution!
Posted by: Lee at July 28, 2006 10:36 AMStrange. I've chosen arts in order not to matter. The last thing I need is that people take me seriously ;)
Posted by: rattus at July 28, 2006 2:39 PMactually, a lot of the best art comes from people who dont believe they matter. i.e. depressed cave hermits, raving lunatics, socially inept drunkards and of course the lowly heroin addicts. (basquiat being the frontrunning heroin addict artist in my book) The ones that think highly of themselves, or consider themselves "elite" are usually the priveledged snoblings that waste 25k a year to get high and catch VD at parsons , pratt, otis, SCAD, etc. However, to merely lump every artist into a brief generalization on the back of a business card seems a bit trite in my eyes, but hey, its probably art to someone else.
I am so tempted to print up a pile of these a leave a stack at the smoking area in front of the "Academy" of Art Degree Mill, oops, I mean College on New Montgomery St here in San Francisco. It's full of smug, "I smoke abd dress this way because I'm an ar-teeest" students getting their "degrees" from such a joke of an art school.

Posted by: Chris at July 28, 2006 9:40 PMIt's amazing that this is a comment section and no one here is even trying to interpret what exactly is that image in art people suck.
Allow me to analyze this.
From the naked eye it may be just some random lines with circles at the ends, with ladders, connected to a big spiral with circles everywhere.
Look at the image while turning your head ALL THE WAY to the Right, and you see jar jar binks in a pod racer.
"2 big eyes on top, some weird bracelet on his face and big mouth with ugly sets of teeth. And I do believe those small lines with small circles are his saliva, being blown away by some the speed of the pod racer."
Call me crazy. :D But I see it !
The wonders of art. It brings you to a whole new world.

Posted by: Greg at July 28, 2006 9:56 PMWay, way back in the Before Time, I wanted to be an artist. But I went into advertising, instead. After a long time in a business full of posers, I felt the need to be around genuine expression, with no need for artifice. So I started showing my art.
Ha.
I'll take ad people any day. Fake? Yeah. But at least, admittedly so.
Posted by: ernie mosteller at July 29, 2006 2:33 AMI read this blog mostly for your art. I dabble a bit (less than you)...still, I know what you mean.
The truth hurts and sets us free...(philosophers suck too).
Posted by: dawbie at July 29, 2006 2:36 PMbloggers suck because they don't matter quite as much as they think they do
