Wrong Question: "What If Media 2.0 Is Less Profitable Than Media 1.0?"
Right Answer: Nobody cares.
Posted by hugh macleod at April 23, 2006 10:53 PM | TrackBackI'm guessing that investors in News Corp and Google (just to name two) care.
But you're right that the de-hyping of 2.0 is quite tedious.
Posted by: Scott Karp at April 23, 2006 11:11 PMI'd say it has a lot more to do with the inevitability of this change.
The bottom line is this: the only people who are going to make money through media in the future are the people who understand the new media forms and use them to their advantage.
Crying about how much money it makes isn't going to change the fact that people prefer it.
Posted by: sky at April 23, 2006 11:51 PMYou know what would have made that linked article that much better? Even MORE useless buzzwords. Gah.
Posted by: Scotty at April 24, 2006 2:20 AMYou're extremely right. Nobody cares, because (if I understood well the linked article) the pricing model of TV and the like is as wrong as the question.
Marketing drones would do well if they stop thinking about "hitting retinal tissue" as the way to communicate anything to anyone.
I'm with Jarvis on this one.
