The New Dress Code:[Thanks to The Head Lemur for the link.]The most dramatic change in menswear will be the shift towards formal suiting and structured garments. This year we will see the return of the suit, a fashion phenomenon not seen since the 1980s. Tailored jackets are the key item and the most effective way of updating a man¹s silhouette.
Dennis Halberry, arguably the greatest tailor of the Twentieth Century and the man who trained Thomas, once said, "We [Savile Row] don't follow fashion. Fashion follows us."

Posted by: Olivier Blanchard at January 7, 2006 2:25 AMOh goody!
Really, I find nothing hotter than a man in a suit.
Especially a 3 piece suit.
Although, yes, all suits are NOT created equal.
The “suit” phenomenon was predicted to come forth as a reaction to a few things: Clinton-era casualness, typified by Al Gore during his campaign; and the bursting of the dot-com bubble. ‘Dust off the suit, get out your résumé,’ came the cries. It was also felt the Bush administration was more suit-and-tie-like, and would cause the trend to kick in c. 2001. I’d say the fashion trend-setters might go against this themselves, going back toward comfort. Watch the fall 2006 shows in New York next month—I have a feeling the casual stuff will begin a re-emergence, enough for trend-spotters to draw the opposite conclusion.
Posted by: Jack Yan at January 7, 2006 10:15 AMI link this trend to the aging of the Baby Boomers: they'll get more conservative with age -- that, and casual dress looks just awful when you're 65 with a sagging ass.
;-)
Jokes aside... should I wear blue, grey, black or brown? Which is best, tie or suspenders? Decisions, decisions...

Have you seen www.dresskevin.com ? It's a riot. He doesn't know what to wear either. Site visitors vote to select his attire by the day/activity.
