Too Funny:
"The thing I don't get is what's a creative guy (Hugh) doing with a PC."-David Burn

Posted by hugh macleod at January 19, 2005 7:44 PM | TrackBackWell, I went to design school, and due to historical precedent along the lines of "They only make good design programs for Macs" back in the day, most of what we were supposed to do there was on them.
However, these days I can still use the same programs on a PC and do what I want there too. So why's the Mac such a damn big deal? Mac isn't the only computer for the arts out there any more...everyone's got Photoshop, for chrissake.

Posted by: Alex at January 20, 2005 12:47 AMIt's worth mentioning that while Macs definitely aren't the only computers for the arts, PCs, equally, aren't the only computers for the admin.
Time and again when I evangelise my OS of choice people say "but that's great if you're creative like you, but I'm just an -insert boring job-". That's just crap these days, I may own a "creative" company, but I'm an admin guy myself.
The stereotype/stigma/assumption works both ways...!
Posted by: Rich...! at January 20, 2005 12:58 AMI have MSPaint! That is all I will ever need. Of course, I'm a pretty gosh darn bad artist.

Posted by: Robb at January 20, 2005 2:44 PMHugh,
Thanks for pointing to your earlier post, where you make clear your computing brand preference.
"If Apple had a human voice, it would sound like Douglas Coupland."
That's almost enuf to make me go out and buy a PC.
However, before I commit such a dangerous act, let me counter with this thought. "If Apple had a human voice, it would sound like Arundhati Roy."
